All candidates for the SDFSC Junior Board Executive Committee are listed below alphabetically by the last name.

Throughout my whole life, I have always been big on being involved and doing as much as I can to benefit the people around me. Over the past two years transitioning over to SDIA with Connie and being able to have ample amount of opportunities both in figure skating and in coaching has been an absolutely blessing and with that, I would really want to volunteer for the SDFSC Junior Board Executive Committee so that I am able to further my involvement in the club along with being able to connect more with my peers. Not only do I feel that an executive position on the board would be self-rewarding I also believe that I would be able to bring a lot to that position that would benefit the board.

The SDFSC community has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember, and in recent years, I’ve become more and more involved in SDFSC events. I started working as a junior coach in 2019, and contributing to the environment of teaching and teamwork needed has made me realize that I truly love helping out the community we have formed at the rink. Last year’s experience as Vice President on the Junior Board Committee has given me a front-row seat to how things work behind the scenes at many of the rink’s events, and my experience has shown me that being on such a board with like-minded people is the best place for me to make a positive impact on the rink. I’ve learned so much in this last term serving as Vice President from my fellow peers and coaches on the board, and I hope to continue all the projects that we have planned for the upcoming year even more efficiently and successfully. The rink has done so much for me and helped me improve not only as a skater but also as a person, so I feel that is my duty to give back to the rink and try to help others have the same experience as I did.

Hi! My name is Alisa Kunimoto, but you can call me Ari. I have been skating at SDICE for the past 6 years. I’ve skated on the synchronized skating team (Team Del Sol & Shining Blades) for a total of 4 years. Last year, I severed as the treasurer on the Jr Board and organized events such as the Halloween Carnival and Bubble Run. I also work as a Jr coach at night, so you can probably see me running around the skating rink almost every day. Not only do I love ice skating, but I also love the SDFSC community and hope that I can bring the club closer together.

Hi! I’m Erica, a junior from Canyon Crest Academy. I started skating at SDIA when I moved here 6 years ago, and since then I’ve taken group and private lessons at SDIA. Through SDFSC, I have taken MITF tests and passed Novice. I have also been a member of Team Del Sol for several years and skated last season on the Intermediate team. Skating at SDIA has not only improved my skating skills but has also allowed me to connect with friends. The SDFSC Junior Board’s events last year looked so fun and I would love to be able to connect with more people through Junior Board and their events! Furthermore, SDFSC has benefited me so much as a skater and I would love to be a part of the Junior Board Executive Committee as a way of giving back to the skating community.

I would like to be President/VP of the SDFSC Jr. Board because I am very passionate about figure skating and bringing the community closer together. I have skated on Team Del Sol for four years on the national level and am a double gold medalist. Currently, I serve as the VP of communications on the Jr.Board where I create the fliers and Instagram posts that you see! Additionally, I’ve created newsletters of the events we did this year to capture the wonderful memories. As a current member of the board, I have helped to organize events such as the Halloween Carnival and Bubble Run and learned a lot from my past experiences, and I realize the importance of coordination and communication. As President/VP, I would plan to do more events like this, such as lock-ins, beach parties, and more! Furthermore, as a competitive figure skater and the founder of AYSIP (a sports injury prevention nonprofit), I would love to bring guest speakers or sports injury programs to our skaters because I understand the importance of health and safety for our athletes. I’m also very open to everyone’s input and I hope you will vote for me. Thank you so much!

Figure skating has been such a big part of my life since I was five years old. I grew up at the San Diego Ice Arena, spending afternoons there in elementary school, doing my homework in the warm room when there were not yet TVs and snack bar, and later spending every morning there before school, tired but eager to skate. The rink became my second home. This figure skating community has taught me so much through the sport. I never thought I would know what it is like to have such a passion and something you are willing to work so hard for. Waking up each morning and making the trip to the rink was not always easy, but the supportive community of the SDFSC allowed me to love this sport so much and come back day after day. I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with each one of my coaches who have pushed me to become a better skater and better person. I hope to be able to give back to this skating community. The coaches, fellow skaters, and everyone else who plays a role in making this club what it is have made me into the strong individual I am today and I hope that I can help create even a small part in creating the environment that helps someone else pursue what they love. Everyone deserves a place to escape when the world stresses them out, and skating was that place for me. I want to help create a place where people enjoy spending their time and make the SDFSC a family where skaters look at figure skating as a passion and love.
