Hi, my name is Sadie Fischer. I am a rising senior at Canyon Crest Academy and I am running for president of the Junior Board for this new term. I want to run for this office because I want to help make the skating community a more connected environment and I believe the Junior Board will help achieve this goal. I have experience on boards in the past: Junior Board for one year and three other separate boards in other organizations as well, as well as other transferable skills from being a teaching assistant for kindergarten for two years and 2nd grade for one year, being vice president and then president of my school’s National History Day Club, and I have been skating at SDIA since 2018. Some qualities that I will bring to the Junior Board are my abilities to get projects done, my organizational skills, and my ability to motivate people. I believe these qualities are important as they will allow the board to be more successful in our events by making sure events run on time, run smoothly, and have more participation which I believe in turn will lead to better connection both within the board and the skating club at large. Last term I was able to get the Candy Grams for the SDIA holiday show created, sent out, and organized with volunteers in the span of a week. This demonstrated my qualities of organization and encouragement of others that I hope to continue to bring to the Junior Board.
I have been a part of SDFSC for many years and skate here daily. I also was VP of Communications last year as well as I am a Jr. Coach at the rink.
I feel like I can bring many qualities to the Jr. board at SDIA. One of them bring my hard working skills and determination because I constantly have things going on and still manage to make everything work. I can maintain my very high GPA, my work, my friends, and ice skating. I also feel like I am a very creative person, so I can help plan Jr. Board events for the next year.
I have been a SDFSC member for 10+ years where I have passed all my MITF/skating skills tests and a few freeskate tests. I have volunteered at many skating competitions hosted by our club and I’m currently a Jr Coach at SDIA. I was a part of the Team Del Sol Open-Juv team this past season and served as the treasurer of the SDFSC Junior Board.
I would love to be part of the Junior Board again this year because I believe that it is a great experience and opportunity to get to meet younger skaters part of SDFSC. My main goal for the upcoming year would be to host more engaging club events where members of all ages are included and can have the opportunity to get to know each other. Some qualities that I would bring to the Junior Board include organization, commitment, and perceptiveness. From past experiences, I have learned that commitment is very important in order to build a strong and successful team and to build trust with the people you work with. I will be committed to helping with events that could bring our club members closer together. I look forward to another great year and getting to meet new club members!
As a member of San Diego Figure Skating Club for around 10 years, I have participated in an abundance of club events. Alongside representing SDFSC at many competitions over the years and at performances around San Diego, I have valuable experiences from organizing and leading club activities, such as monthly events and club exhibitions, participating in annual performances, such as annual Christmas shows, and nurturing personal relationships amongst the teachers and skaters in our club. My commitment to SDFSC over the past decade has allowed me to understand the strong values and goals of our club which I hope to further expand. As vice-president of the Junior Board this past year, I gained unique insight into the management and organization of our club. From engaging in the Adult and Junior Board meetings, I have been able to collaborate with a variety of club members and supervisors. In these meetings, I created and presented reports on Junior Board events as well as presented new ideas to other members. This year, I was able to lead and organize the Junior Board’s February Valentine’s Day card-making activity, and the event was a success! I formulated the detailed plans of the event: from proposing the activities to purchasing materials to gathering volunteers. While leading the event, I interacted with the young skaters at the ice rink and taught them how to make their own cards and origami hearts. I even spoke with parents who wished to inform me about how much they enjoyed the activity. From planning to completing the event, this experience gave me personal understandings about the responsibilities and mentality of Junior Board leaders.
I have been a previous runner in local competitions, and have attended events and competitions.
Ever since I was 6, I’ve been skating at the San Diego Ice Arena. I’m very passionate about skating, and would love to be part of the junior board. I’ve also been in synchronized skating for multiple years and have passed up to my Intermediate MITF, so I can work very well in a team setting and on my own. I’m an outgoing person, which means I can help in trying to expand our reach of interests and get more people to join our community. I always complete my tasks on time or try my best to, and will help keep our club moving forward. When faced with tough situations, I will still exert my best effort to complete it to the best of my abilities.
I have been a SDFSC member for 8 years; I am a USFS Gold Medalist in Skating Skills and currently testing my Gold Pattern Dances. In the past few years, I have been an active volunteer at the rink, helping out with Junior Board exhibitions and the California State Games and Skate La Grande competitions. I am also a Junior Coach and love coaching Learn to Skate classes.
As a Junior Board executive, I hope to establish a strong sense of community within the San Diego Figure Skating Club. One of this club’s most unique aspects is its diversity—in ages, zip codes, backgrounds, etc. As such, I would love to foster greater connection between all skaters by showcasing diverse perspectives and encouraging all members to be involved with the club however possible. Whether it be coaches and skaters sharing experiences and advice through a rink magazine, or participating in asynchronous events like T-shirt design contests and service drives, I am committed to making SDFSC a tight-knit and inclusive community. I look forward to an exciting and vibrant year ahead!
